You can find the past projects from the AY2024/25 batch below. This will give you a sense of what the group project will be like for this course. Note that the problems will not be repeated in subsequent runs, but you should expect similar types of problems. In general, the problems will relate to a real public policy or operational problem and will require you to analyse granular datasets which you are unlikely to have used before this course.

Problem 1: Shortlisting bus routes for rerouting

Problem statement: You are a team of data scientists in MOT, focusing specifically on public transportation policies and implementation. You have been tasked to do a comprehensive analysis of all bus routes that are parallel to MRT lines - specifically you need to assess which bus services are worth reviewing for potential service changes.

Problem 2: Analysing toxicity in online discourse

Problem statement: You are a team of data scientists at MDDI, focusing specifically on online trust and safety. You have an internal dataset of Reddit comments on Singapore-related subreddits. You have been tasked to do a comprehensive analysis of Reddit data to assess whether and why the topics and comments have become more hateful and toxic over the past few years.
